The high efficiency of OPHTALMO-COMPLEX® plus Bilberry is due to the protective effect of its components on the macula or yellow spot (the retina area responsible for color perception and maximum visual acuity), the lens, the vitreous humor and other structural units of the eye.

The effect of all active components of OPHALMO-COMPLEX® plus Bilberry is clinically confirmed. 

Light rays when passing through the transparent avascular tissues of the eye (cornea, anterior chamber fluid, crystalline lens and vitreous humor) enter the retina that is a cluster of neurons (nerve cells) that provide vision. The retina consumes much more oxygen than any other tissue. A photochemical reaction that occurs under the action of light and oxygen leads to the initiation of lipid peroxidation (LPO) and the formation of highly active free radicals that damage the photosensitive cells of the retina. 

Aggressive action of free radicals on cells of the retina, lens and other eye tissues induces various pathologies and leads to a decrease in visual acuity. 

The xanthophilic carotenoids lutein and zeaxanthin are the natural pigments of the yellow spot (macula) and the main components of the antioxidant defense system of the retina included in the composition of OPHALMO-COMPLEX® plus Bilberry. The blue part of the spectrum of daylight has the most destructive effect, causing the formation of aggressive free radicals that damage the retina. 

Lutein and zeaxanthin, being light filters, absorb the blue light. In addition, having high rates of antioxidant reactions, lutein and zeaxanthin are powerful and highly effective inhibitors of free radicals promote their decay, uptake and elimination.

The results of the researches showed that consuming lutein and zeaxanthin substantially containing foods increases their concentration in the eye's macula and significantly reduces the risk of development of Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) by 82%, and the risk of development of cataracts by more than 30%.

To protect effectively the eye tissues from the damaging effect of free radicals in OPHALMO-COMPLEX® plus Bilberry, apart from carotenoids, there is a carefully selected (based on the results of a number of international studies) complex of antioxidants, enhancing the effect of lutein and zeaxanthin. 

Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is one of the most powerful antioxidants known to science. In the cornea of a healthy person the fluid in the anterior chamber and the lens and the concentration of vitamin C is ten times higher than in the plasma of the blood. That's why the located there vitamin C is a reliable filter for the harmful area of ​​the spectrum and provides a powerful antioxidant effect for eye structures. In the human body vitamin C is not synthesized, so the reduction of its intake with food may lead to the development of eye pathology. 

Vitamin E (a-tocopherol acetate) is the most effective free radical scavenger. The retina contains a large amount of a-tocopherol in the outer segments of the rods and retinal pigment epithelium (PES). Its concentrations in these tissues directly depend on the amount of vitamin E, consumed with food. In a number of studies, prolonged vitamin E deficiency led to retinal degeneration. Vitamin E shows a synergy with carotenoids in the deactivation of free radicals. 

Zinc affects the activity of the retinol dehydrogenase enzyme necessary for the normal functioning of vitamin A and, accordingly, for visual acuity and dark adaptation. It is a part of the protein involved in the process of transfer of retinol from the liver to the retina. Zinc activates antioxidant enzymes (catalase, superoxide dismutase), having a direct antioxidant effect on the retina. It is thought that the optic nerve needs zinc to maintain its structure, and the zinc deficit causes a decrease in the myelination of nerve fibers. In small amounts, zinc reduces retinal ischemia. 

Selenium has semiconductor properties and is capable to increase dramatically the electrical conductivity under the action of light. Selenium in a living organism is responsible for converting light energy into the energy of the electric potential of the retina, which is the beginning of the visual perception of the environment. In the retina of the eye there is a significant amount of selenium. It is proved a direct relationship between visual acuity and selenium in the eyes. Are found strong antioxidant properties of selenium and its effect on the enzyme glutathione peroxidase, which participates in the glutathione system, acting as a universal pathway for removing harmful compounds from the eye tissues.

Taurine is the main amino acid in the tissues of the eye and lacrimal film; the concentration of taurine in the retina exceeds its concentration in the blood by 100-400 times. Taurine stimulates reparative processes in dystrophic eye diseases. Taurine protects (prevents) the cells of the retina and the cornea from the state of oxidative stress caused by the action of free radicals by suppressing the processes of lipid peroxidation. 

The main active components of the extract of blueberry fruit are anthocyans. Anthocyans improve the blood supply to the retina and have a significant antioxidant effect, preventing damage to the eye tissues by free radicals.

Anthocyanins contribute to the restoration of photosensitive pigment of rhodopsin and thus intensify visual acuity at twilight. Modern studies have found that regular intake of anthcyans contributes to the suppression of aldose-reductase activity, preventing the formation of sorbitol lens in the tissues and thus slowing the development of cataracts. 


The active components that make up the structure of OPHALMO-COMPLEX® plus Bilberry are used:

- for active prevention of age-related disturbances of visual acuity and eye diseases in risk groups (in persons over 45 years old, in patients with diabetes mellitus, with genetic predisposition to cataracts or retinal degeneration, in smokers, with a light color of the iris);

- for active preventions of cataract and Age-related macular degeneration (AMD);

- for active prevention of eye diseases with significant visual loads (continuous watching TV, working on the computer, reading books);

- during the recovery (rehabilitation) period after ophthalmic operations;

- to ensure normal and restore impaired vision. 


adults and children over 12 years old, 1 capsule once or twice a day with food, wash down with some water. Course of intake is up to 12 weeks; for the further course of therapy and the possibility of a second course it is recommended to coordinate with the doctor.

When the medicine is used in unreasonably high doses, dyspeptic phenomena (nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea) are possible. Symptomatic treatment, gastric lavage, reception of enterosorbents are prescribed in the case of overdose of the medicine.
